Timeshare General Discussion / Re: New Members - Please Introduce Yourself
« Last post by naive2 on September 03, 2010, 10:35:16 pm »
Hello all
I'm Alan Turner,My wife and I bought 2 weeks at Palm Oasis in 1997 after being taken to a"presentation"The salesman told us that
he had bought 12 weeks as an investment which would rocket in value and if we wanted to sell in the future,Palm Oasis would have a resale service. At that time we had no reason to disbelieve him.I did not have my credit card with me so I was taken to my hotel in a taxi while my wife was held prisoner. When I returned,I was persuaded to ring the credit card company and ask for a higher credit limit so I could pay the deposit.I can't believe I was so naive!I have not paid the maintenance fees for 2 years
and their debt collectors,Debtsave has sent me a Final Demand- Legal action Imminent letter for 2 years fees + interest which I
have refused to pay.My wife has a long term mental illness and will never be able to go.There is no law to stop these sharks
from demanding money from me until I die -and beyond.I'm 72 this month so,while I am still fit.I'm going to fight them and
tell the world.

Hi
my name is Alison Jeatt we have a timeshare in Palm Oasis, Gran Canaria, hubby made redundant in 2009 and I am about to be medically retired due to ill health, due to finances etc we have not used our timeshare since 2008.  Have tried to sell it and even give it away to no avail.  Hopefully Itra will be able to help us.

When we bought were told that it was a good investment for ourselves and children (who say clear off we don't want that millstone around our necks thanks), was told that we would be able to sell quite easily and that the value would go up year on year.  (think they meant the maintenance fees) was told by one of the sales guys he had bought twelve weeks as he thought it was such a good investment.

They caught us at a weak moment in time as it was our wedding anniversary, our first trip abroad without children etc, tried to cancel when we got home to no avail as it was over the 7 day cooling off period (holiday was for two weeks).  ah well not the only ones in this situation.

regards

Alison

I too with my sister  purchased marriott timeshare in usa, ours was over £15k. same promises as you, and now looking to get out. they wont buy back as not sold 100% then if a miracle did buy it back would only give 40% of sale price which could be practically nothing. so do we keep on paying maintenance and at least get a holiday or lose everything, if its possible to get out.  we are going to use the timeshare facility in 3 weeks time and to see if we can find out anymore information re selling. I did look at timeshare consumer association website and they seem to be independant from any timeshare connections.  what is frustrating is having made such a bad decision, trying to find people who are genuine and willing to help solve this problem, as much as we are trying we keep coming across companies just as bad as the timeshare companies, again trying to rip us off, watch out for ones that will offer to take them of your hands, check internet first!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We at ITRA warn all members not to rely on internet secondary information or third party stories as the above suggests. Many forums/discussion boards are heavily infiltrated by members of the timeshare industry and the websites are often sponsored if not owned by the same. It is almost impossible to seek the answers one desires from these media sources and as a result of their derogative advise many timeshare owners unfortunately fall foul of their intentions thus ensuring you are never free from their clutches.

Our advise is to trust your own instincts and judgement by taking the opportunity to see what options are available, rather rely on false claims and assistance from many who have their own secret agendas.

We must remind everyone that ITRA does not offer a solution for your timeshare problem, it is a service offered solely by our sponsors but we are aware their option has worked for many "former" owners of the last decade.

Please also understand that timeshares are completely worthless entities, therefore the chances of selling one is less than unlikely. Not even a charity would contemplate accepting it as free donation because of the financial costs it inherits. Anyone offering you a service to sell your timeshare should be heavily investigated first and you should never pay them an upfront fees for this program because regardless of their claims, there is no resale market any more and buyers are very few and far between.

The reality is you either keep your timeshare and pay your maintenance or you pay someone to take it off your hands. Any other solution available will have its pitfalls and could even land you in court or worse.

If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us anytime at: Administration1@ITRA.net

Thank you

Has anyone actually been able to stop paying the outrageous maintenance fees and got rid of their timeshare  by joining Itra?     Or is it just an ongoing legal battle with no end in sight.

Dear Tunstallb

In reply to your question above, your meeting with ITRA was to see if you qualify for a one or more of the class action refund claims ITRA is currently pursuing or looking to pursue against certain fractions of the timeshare industry. At no stage during this process would ITRA directly assist anyone with as you state "stop paying the outrageous maintenance fees and got rid of their timeshare".

After completing the Pre-Qualification Survey you are asked by our sponsors if you would like learn of their solution to help you with ending your timeshare misery. There is no obligation to attend, but we are aware that during the past few years these sponsors have assisted a considerable amount unhappy timeshare owners to become free from their liability by the use of their unique timeshare exit strategy.

We must remind everyone that ITRA does not offer this solution, it is a service offered solely by our sponsors.

If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us anytime at: Administration1@ITRA.net

We went to the same presentation 6 months or so ago & decided not to spend any more money on timeshare products. Its like a bottomless pit upgrade upgrade & then spend money to get rid of the timeshare!!!!!

Dear diane.goldie@yahoo.co.uk

We believe it is important to highlight that during your meeting with ITRA you were not offered any timeshare products. After your meeting with the ITRA trained consultant, you were simply given an opportunity to relieve yourself from your timeshare burden once and for all. Though this option was not obligatory, it could have ensured you the timeshare freedom you seemingly much desire.

It may not have been the solution you were willing to pursue but we feel it is unfair on our sponsors who have kindly donated their office space to ITRA and other disgruntled timeshare owners who may desperately require this service in the future to confuse this introduction with that of your previous experiences in timeshare.

If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us anytime at: Administration1@ITRA.net

Dear Walker22

I would like to assist you with your query, but it is not very clear what you are referring to because your description of your meeting seems a little confused. Could you kindly reply to this post with further information please?

I am having the same problem with MacDonalds. I need to get out, I can no longer use the timeshare in Leila Playa, Costa Del Sol due ill health reasons but they will not help me to sell it ( in fact Sales Team very annoyed with me for complaining about them that they did not appear to be selling it although it was allegedly on the market for years ) They won't 'give it away' as it 'devalues the properties' a bit of a joke really as anything is only worth what someone will pay!
I hate the thought of this causing my children problems. It would appear other owners are not able to sell either.
Have you had any joy in selling yours?

I am also with MacDonalds, but at Leila Playa in Spain. I pay a small fortune now for one week in January.
it would appear that I just have to keep on paying or be taken to court, they will not take the week back.
What's worse this burden fall son my children when I can no longer pay for it!
Have you found any solution yet?
